Scope :
Section 8 (1) of the Washington State Shoreline Management Act of 1971 required counties to conduct inventories of their marine, lake and stream shorelines, and beaches and adjacent areas landward to a distance of two hundred feet. This series consists of inventories undertaken (1972-1975) by King County in compliance with state legislation, and used further in the development of the King County Shoreline Master Program. The project was begun under the King County Department of Planning (1972) and completed by the Land Use Management Division of the Department of Community and Environmental Development (1973-1975). Project documentation included (1) a shoreline summary inventory, (2) inventories of Lake Sammamish, Lake Washington, Vashon-Maury Islands, and western King County, and (3) city inventories of Beaux Arts, Carnation, Duvall, Lake Forest Park, North Bend, Pacific, Skykomish, and Snoqualmie. All reports are present in this series. Report information varies by type of report but typically includes information regarding land use, type of land ownership, geology, soils, vegetation, slope and shoreline classifications, and wildlife. Maps (topographical, and reproductions of aerial photographs) and tables accompany the text. The reports are arranged alphabetically by name of study area.
