Scope :
These statistical and narrative reports document the incidence, distribution and control of Human Immunodeficiency Virus / Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) in Washington State and the Seattle-King County area for the period 1986-2009. The reports were issued under several titles: Quarterly AIDS Surveillance Report (1986-1988); HIV-AIDS Quarterly Epidemiology Report (1989-1999); and HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Report (issued twice yearly from the year 2000). Beginning with the second quarter of 1986, they were published jointly by the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health and the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services with financial support from the federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Report information was generally consistent over time, including incidence statistics in King County, Washington State and its counties, and comparative statistics from other states and metropolitan areas. After 1990 increased demographic information was tracked: patient age group, sex, race/ethnicity, exposure category, year of diagnosis; deaths, fatality rates, time living with AIDS. Reports also contained narrative information: epidemiological and surveillance news, reports of clinical trials, vaccine evaluations, pediatric AIDS work, project reports, conference reports, evaluation unit reports, and special feature articles and retrospective reports. Tables and graphs accompany text materials. This series is arranged chronologically. Digital versions of reports, 2000 and later, can be accessed online at: As of 2013 this report was combined with the HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Profile for Community Planning (Series 1843).
