Agency files
Record Group :
County Executive: Randy Revelle
Series Number :
1406
Series Date(s) :
1981-1986  Begin Date: 1981    End Date: 1986
Level :
Series
Scope :
The agency files of the administration of County Executive Randy Revelle (1981-1985) document the interactions and communications of the County Executive and his staff with county executive departments, the County Council and the courts. They also document activities of the Executive Office itself. The files contain copies of incoming and outgoing letters and memoranda, as well as other textual materials, that were generated or received by the County Executive. Separate files of citizen correspondence are present for most agencies and for some agency subdivisions. Arrangement is by year, with an annual increment present for each year of the Revelle administration (1981-1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985). A small number of transitional records from 1986 are also present. Between the 1984 and 1985 increments is a separate grouping of agency files maintained for the period 1984-1985 by the Deputy Executive and the director of the Department of Executive Administration, to whom Executive Revelle had delegated more departmental oversight in 1984.

Each yearly grouping shows the same basic arrangement. Files for executive departments are maintained alphabetically by department name (Adult Detention to Youth Services). Under each department, administrative files and citizen correspondence are followed by files for agency subdivisions and sometimes for specific programs or subjects: these materials are usually arranged alphabetically. Files for the Executive Office follow those of the departments. These files include types of letters (congratulations, invitations, condolences, letter of thanks, etc.); speeches; and files documenting the County Executive's relationships with unions, local governments and officials, and professional organizations. County Council files include ordinances and motions generated by the Executive Office and referred to the Council. Court files are subdivided by court (Superior Court and District Court) and generally contain reports, studies, policies and procedures, and interlocal agreements. A small number of litigation materials (court cases and claims against the county) are found with the court records; however, most litigation files of the Revelle administration were transferred to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office in December 1985. Lists of folders present in each box are maintained in the hard-copy series file for Series 1406. Lists for 1981-1984 are agency-generated transmittals and may show minor differences between actual box contents.
